“Petitioning Your Prayers...”
I.
Introduction: Why This Prayer Petition?
1. Pray for God’s Glory in This Ministry
2. Pray for Boldness for Me in Preaching
3. Pray for the Sending Forth of Laborers
4. Pray for the Reaping of the Harvest
C. Conclusion: [Recent Prayer Request Updates]

The “Prayer Petition” page is probably one of the most important pages within this entire web site!  While certain aspects of this page will likely remain constant, others will change from time to time.  Please check this page intermittently for new developments, or else consider subscribing (It’s entirely FREE!) to this web site to receive convenient emails about important changes to this and other pages within this PreachTheOldPaths.com site!

I am now petitioning for your personal prayers for me and for this ministry of preaching the “Old Paths,” as emphasized by Jeremiah 6:16.  Prayer is the single greatest tool any saint of God has ever had, for prayer is the means by which the God of that saint stands up and works or intercedes on that saint’s behalf.  Yes, “…the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”  (James 5:16)  Prayer is no little thing!

Now, are you hungering for true personal revival?  Have you been one of those “…that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done….”? (Ezekiel 9:4)  Are you determined, by the grace of God, to do whatever it takes to live for Him and to bring glory to His Word and Name?  Are you desirous that lost souls might find the seeking Shepherd?  Then, beneath hungering to walk in God’s power, enjoy His sweet presence (Exodus 33:15-16), and glorify His marvelous Word, I hunger for your prayers more than anything else!  Are you very young?  I hunger for your prayers even more!  After all,  Christ said of innocent children that “…in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. …” (Matthew 18:10)  On the other hand, are you very aged?  What better prayer warrior could there be than one who can do little else but pray? Please pray for me!  Are you neither young nor old but somewhere in the middle?  Then, please do not allow the daily routines of life and the cares of this world to choke out your prayers for men of God in these latter times!  Then, include me in your prayer list also, please.  I highly value such prayers!

Why do I go to such lengths to petition your prayer support?  Simply this, I desire above all else to obtain revival within my own heart--true revival according to God’s definition, not according to any man’s and not even my own! Then, I desire to be an unobstructed channel through which the preaching of such revival may freely flow.  Such an aspiration I believe God alone has placed within my heart, “for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)  In truth, such a thing as a true revival can never be forced, manipulated, faked, or worked up!  Spurgeon clarified4, “The only kind of revival that is worth having is that which has come down from God, not that which has been got up by men.”  Indeed, the only way true revival will come is if it is prayed down from heaven by humble, yielded saints!  Spurgeon once claimed22, “If there be but a dozen men in this, my church, who have set their faces for a revival, we shall surely have it. Of this, my heart knows no doubt.” Have revival he did!  Our level of Christianity pales in comparison to our spiritual predecessors of generations past.  What a sad commentary on today, however.  Are there no longer even twelve saints sufficiently yielded to and desirous of true revival to bring it down from heaven’s gates?  Surely there are; for even in Israel’s most spiritually inclement times, God assured, “…I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.” (Romans 11:4)  Surely the same holds true to some degree today.  However, perhaps, under the unrelenting pressures of today’s godless times, such saints have since “…fainted, and were scattered abroad….” (Matthew 9:36)--even while being parts of good local New Testament churches.  If so, may their voices rise to heaven in a sincere, penitent, and praising chorus, even though they be not personally aware of one another’s voices.  Yes, may God’s people once again echo far and wide, “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?”  (Psalm 85:6)  Ah, true revival!  That alone is why I petition your earnest prayers for me!  Such a blessing can never be achieved by any mortal man or by anyone striving for recognition; but such revival is entirely possible through an all-powerful God!

Will I know if you pray for me?  No, I will not, unless you choose to let me know that you are.  However, God will know: and He can bless not only the one being prayed for but also the ones selflessly doing such intercessory praying! Perhaps the truly richest blessing you may receive will be a growing desire for such a revival within yourself personally! After all, to know, love, and serve God is the richest life anyone can lead; for “…in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”  (Psalm 16:11)  Therefore, “…now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.”  (Psalm 39:7) Arise, dear saints of God!  Let us walk in humble, contrite prayer up to the very doors of Biblical revival; and let us faithfully knock until they are mercifully opened!

Below are my prayer requests.  Even while I am now entering into full-time ministry, I am am a firm believer in the eternal value of laying up a storehouse of prayer before undertaking any worthwhile venture for God--whenever possible!   If you choose to honor me with your prayers, you can decide to what level to pray for these things depending on your time availability or on your personal desire for God’s blessings on the smaller details of this ministry….

Please Pray….

1:

FIRST, FOR GOD’S GLORY IN THIS MINISTRY:

  • “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.” (II Thessalonians 3:1-2)
    • Pray for God’s Word to have an unobstructed channel through this ministry and preacher to reach people’s hearts for the kingdom of heaven’s sake.
    • Pray for God to mercifully provide a path around those who would either unwittingly or willfully stand as a hindrance to a true revival of the “old paths.”
  • “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.” (I Corinthians 16:9)

2:

SECOND, FOR BOLDNESS FOR ME IN PREACHING:

  • “Praying always… for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador…: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” (Ephesians 6:18-20)
    • Pray that I would speak forth will all boldness the “unsearchable riches of Christ” to the lost.  (Ephesians 3:8)
    • Pray that I will never shun to graciously “declare all the counsel of God” to the saved.  (Acts 20:27; Ecclesiastes 10:12)
  • “Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance….” (Colossians 4:3-4)
    • Pray that Christ will be able to say of me and of this ministry: “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”  (Revelation 3:8)
    • Pray for a door to be opened to true revival!

THIRD, FOR THE SENDING FORTH OF LABORERS:

  • “…Bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.” (Ezra 8:17)
    • Pray that God will send fit men (IITimothy2:21) to further preach Christ and promote true revival through or alongside this ministry!
    • Pray that God will send fit men, where and when necessary, to shepherd those sheep newly carried into Christ’s fold and to pastor those sheep already within that fold.

“Give me one hundred men who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I will shake the world.”
-John Wesley6

  • “…A band of men, whose hearts God had touched.” (I Samuel 10:26)
    • Pray that these men will be banded together in Christ-like unity to promote the sweet propagation of the local, soulwinning New Testament church. (Romans 15:5-7)
    • Pray that these men will only be of a heavenly caliber “stirred up” by God’s grace for such a glorious but sober task.  (Exodus 36:2)

“Oh, it is a happy state of mind when we have no prejudices which can wall out the godly from fellowship with us!”
-C. H. Spurgeon7

  • “…Faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (IITimothy 2:2)
    • Pray that these men will be faithful to the doctrinal and practical “old paths” of Scripture.
    • Pray that these men will not merely absorb but will also radiate such great doctrinal and practical truths from the glorious Gospel!

“…Great revivals of religion have been connected always with a revival of sound doctrine.”
-C. H. Spurgeon8

  • “…Men of understanding.” (Ezra 8:16)
    • Pray that these men will have godly understanding in dealing with people not out of petty ambitions but solely “…for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake.” (Romans 15:30)
  • “…How shall they preach, except they be sent?” (Romans 10:15)
    • Pray that God would only allow those men whom He has personally called, approved, and sent to attain such influence over others, lest God’s sheep be led by carnally ambitious or doctrinally complacent men.

FOURTH, FOR THE REAPING OF THE HARVEST

  • “…The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)
    • Pray that the Lord would add to the church daily those who get saved.  (Acts 2:47)
    • Pray that the “highways and hedges” would be thoroughly searched for those lost sheep without any Savior. (Luke 14:23)

“Dear brethren and sisters, let us begin to pray more boldly for sinners…; let us pray more boldly for our country; let us never cease praying to the Lord to send a great revival throughout the whole world.”
-C. H. Spurgeon10

  3. Please be in prayer for our family as we endeavor, by God’s grace, to raise our little son, Bryant Scott Piper (born July 1, 2005), in the “way that he should go” that when he is old, “he will not depart from it.”
